A LOVELY FEW DAYS

 We just a had a lovely few days staying in the city .... it was my daughter Meg's 18th birthday on Friday (can't believe my baby is 18 !!!) ...... anyway, she said she didn't want "things" for her birthday she wanted experiences, so we saw This is Our Youth

on Wednesday night, drank lots of coffee here, saw some films at

French Film Festival ......

but the highlight had to be seeing Jane Birkin .... (excuse the bad quality of the photo)

she was so amazing, first we saw a little documentary "Souvenirs of Serge" which Jane had made from her own super 8 films, so personal and so beautiful then she did a Q & A after, she was so "real" so unpretentious, so gracious, we were totally captivated and left feeling very happy and very inspired  .....

 

 ..... on our walk home (well, our home away from home, you may remember it from this post ) we saw this dress in a shop window, it was so lovely and such a perfect "turning 18 dress" that I did have to break the "no things" rule .....

so the next day (her actual birthday) we went and bought it ....

 it will always have such lovely memories attached to it,

 it can be her "Jane Birkin Birthday dress" !!!

It really was a lovely few days, we had a nice family dinner Friday night and have been catching up with family and friends over the weekend  ....

 which has been so special,
just like my girl

Oh and we have one more "experience" this Wednesday, we are seeing this band .... should be a nice way to top off a lovely birthday week !!!

A SUNDAY VISIT

 A nice little Sunday visit at my mums house

 and two very camera friendly horses .....

 you may remember little Edie from here and here, she has grown up so much and is such a smart little horse ....

and what a great fringe !!!

 

 

 .... and this is Jack, the new addition

he has come to keep little Edie company ....

 he is the most beautiful brown roan colour .....

and has a very lovely, affectionate nature  

he likes to give big sloppy kisses to your neck .....

and is so great with Edie ...

.... they really are one gorgeous, contented pair.

WEEKEND THINGS

 Fresh basil in my washable paper bags ....

I love these so much, I bought them before Christmas from

 Small Spaces .....

(a very cute shop, if you happen to be in the neighborhood)

 .... so many uses, and they come in black and white as well !!!

 A new stool for the kitchen .....

 

 a new book, a very good read so far ....

this lucky girl got to see his exhibition in London  .....

.... a freshly painted front door  .....

(only the outside)  

 .... and some lovely blue skies outside our door, finally !!!

GARLAND

I thought it was about time to take down the Christmas garlands yesterday (you can see them hanging in this post) .....

 this one got to this stage, but I think I will leave it like that  .....

.... it looks so lovely when the breeze blows !!!

WEEKEND THINGS

 Changed a few frames around .....

 draped some paper garlands bought from Paper 2 the other day .....

 (slowly getting into the festive mood)

 once we get a Christmas tree I think they will be going on that .... I wouldn't mind finding another twig tree like last year .... but I do love the smell of a real tree ? 

We'll see !!!

  Oh, and I found this 1930's cabinet at a car boot sale today .....

....  just need to find some nice old handles for it now, I didn't get as lucky as last time, but I'm very happy with this !!!

Crazy weather here, two seasons in one day .... wore a summer dress this morning and winter woolies this afternoon !!!

PEAR TART

 We made the yummiest pair tart on the weekend .... 

it was a combined effort, my daughter made the pastry and I made the filling ....

pretty simple and pretty healthy too ....

 the pastry is made with spelt wholewheat flour, LSA mix, sugar, olive oil and sea salt .....

and the filling is just pears (skin left on) a little brown sugar, lemon juice and lots of cinnamon ........

.... and we found the perfect use for the garden sieve that I picked up here a while back ....

 (you may remember it from this post) ....

because really, I was never going to use it for soil, I just liked the look of it, so I'm glad it has a purpose now, I think I might even have to buy a couple more !!!

WEEKEND THINGS

 Hydrangeas from the garden .....

a favorite Sunday brunch .....

eggs from my mums chickens, on a big thick slice of this bread, kale, beetroot leaves and baby spinach from our garden and oven roasted tomatoes ....

 washed down with lots of tea .....

 

so yummy .....

   

.... and we moved a favorite chair out of the house and onto the deck for the summer months,

a perfect spot for weekend paper reading !!!

MY WEEKEND LOOT

I got very lucky last weekend at some local car boot sales ....

sometimes you can walk away empty handed and sometimes (like this time) you can find the best treasures .....  

I already showed you my little garden gnome here but that's

just the start   ....

 I found a birdcage ....

 

 this amazing vintage cage light, my favorite of all the finds .... 

(and it cost a whole $3.00 !!!)

 an old wooden crate ....

(perfect condition)

 this vintage copper horn ....

(bought from the most adorable little boy who had his own stall)

  a tealight lantern ....

 a lovely vintage basket ....

 this (kind of creepy) ceramic dolls heads ....

 

  a wire cover, which is now protecting a herb pot from our local bush turkeys .....

  and I even found these bookshelves, beautiful timber ....

(no home yet though) .....

and the best part ....

the grand total spent was $50.00

.... gotta be happy with that !!!

 lemons from the growers market .....

.... and a tiny bunch of hydrangeas, can't wait for more to bloom so I can put them all through the house, I adore hydrangeas !!!
