Really liking these shots on the The Selby of Karlee Slater in her vintage made to measure shop "The Golden Age" in Melbourne  ....
I hear she's moved on to another premises since these photos were taken ....

MELBOURNE PART 2

Continuing from this post ....
I didn't get to Metropolis bookstore on my last trip, so I made sure it was on top of the list this time.

I love the decor, it reminds me a lot of Ariel Books  in Sydney ....

....  and such the great location on the 3rd floor of Curtin House, I could literally browse for hours ....
(that's my friend purchasing her books)

.... I bought this Tracey Emin book, which should be a good read.

The entry to Curtin House ....

.... and the stairs up to Metropolis, Curtin House is such a wonderful building with such a great history .....
besides Metropolis, there is also Collectors Corner record store, Someday and BĂșl ... there is even a Kung Fu Academy.

I loved exploring the building ....

..... and climbing the stairs to the rooftop, a little chilly this time of year but well worth it for the view ... there were a brave few enjoying the outdoor bar and in summer it hosts markets, live music and a rooftop cinema.
It felt very New York ....

..... I really need to get back in the summer !!!

We also did a bit of browsing through a few other stores in the city, mostly window shopping, unfortunately I didn't make it to Captains of Industry this trip or Comeback Kid
which both come highly recommended by my favorite local.
There really just weren't enough hours in the day.

We did return to Curtin House that evening for a meal and a drink at Cookie, great atmosphere, super adorable waiter and the best Thai food I have had in a long time, my favorite was the Thai sausage with ginger and cucumber, soooo yummy !!!

Then we braved the cold and strolled back to the hotel with a warming drink stop at  Seamstress .....

Seamstress Cocktail Bar

Seamstress Cocktail Bar
.... lots of stairs, but I braved my veritgo and was glad I did (although I don't know how people manage the climb down after a few too many drinks !!!

So after a wonderful Melbourne day and night I hit the pillow one tired but very happy girl !!!

MELBOURNE PART 1

I was lucky enough to make a fleeting trip to Melbourne on the weekend .... a beautiful friend of mine who has recently moved back to Sydney after spending almost twenty years living there was in desperate need of a "Melbourne fix" and asked if she could steal me away from my family to tag along, needless to say she didn't have to ask me twice !!!
First stop was coffee and eggs at Degraves ....

I love this cafe, super adorable staff, amazing coffee and a great spot for people watching ....

..... I could easily sit there for hours.

Then it was time for a bit of street art browsing .... one of my all time favorite things to do in Melbourne, you may remember my last trip here and here.

Listened to this super cute busker .....

.... then went for a stroll with a stop off at the State Library (I love this building) .... we had a look at this exhibition ....

.... and observed some pretty die hard Harry Potter fans congregating outside which was quite amusing.
Then it was time for a little Saturday shopping ....
to be continued.

Wish I could get to Melbourne for "The Linden Postcard Show" ....
The show is in it's 20th year and is the largest of it's kind in Australia,
all works are for sale and the small format means the works are reasonably priced, works by established as well as emerging artists from all mediums are welcome to submit their work.
Kim from "Shipbuilding" blog took these photos and found the period features of the building as interesting as the works ... I think I would have to agree, the space looks amazing !!!

MY MISO DRAWING

In this post I mentioned how I had acquired a Miso drawing ... so here it is ..... It is an original drawing from a street piece Miso did in Melbourne.
I have always had a soft spot for Miso's works featuring women from her Eastern European heritage, so this drawing is just what I wanted, it has such intricate detail, from the lovely creases around her eyes to the pattern on her head scarf, just perfect !!!

As well as having some works around Melbourne Miso has also been busy in some other parts of the world ...
I really love these street pieces from Miso's latest trip overseas .... the above one is in Brooklyn, New York ...

and these are in Storeditch , London.

These are some of Miso's paste ups which have been bought by "The National Gallery of Australia" for this exhibition.

Because these street works are paste ups they eventually deteriorate, the above shot (of a Melbourne work) is the before .....

... and these are the after shots, still so hauntingly beautiful.

I love this ... Miso has drawn up a map of places to visit in Melbourne city and Fitzroy ... read more about it here, so great !!!
I can't wait to take this on my next trip to Melbourne.

Miso also popped this beautiful print and hand cut sticker into my posted bundle ...what a lovely bonus ....

and this is where they are now dwelling .....
thanks again Miso, I love them all !!!
